The Hebrew word for salvation comes from the word ‘yeshua.’ It means: welfare, deliverance, preservation, soundness and victory. The same word in Greek, “soteria,” includes: preservation, safety and health in its definition. Incidentally, ‘yeshua’ is the word from which the name of Jesus is derived. “Ya” or “Jehovah” has become our salvation, and the full definition of salvation is contained in His very name.
Throughout both the Old and New Testaments, we see a foundation of household salvation. The story of Noah (Genesis 6 -9), the story of Rahab (Joshua 2), Lydia and her household are saved (Acts 16:15), Crispus and his household in Corinth are saved and baptized (Acts 18:8), Stephanas and his household are baptized (1 cor. 1:16).
Just as there were conditions that needed to be met for the Israelites to receive their salvation from the death angel, or even for Rahab to be delivered from the attack of the Israelites upon her city, there are conditions for receiving household salvation:
- Intercede for those you love
- Know the promises of salvation
- Walk in faith
