“Carry forth the ashes without the camp unto a clean place.” ~Leviticus 6:11b
Officiating tabernacle worship, the priest’s were commanded to remove the ashes of yesterday’s offerings. Taking the leftover waste from the burnt wood and animal flesh, these ashes were to be cleared away to a separate place. This was an essential responsibility of the priests so they would have a perpetual fire. This heavenly fire was to burn continually!
In our New Testament relationship with God, based on the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, we too have a responsibility. As we provide space and an open environment in our hearts, the fire of the love of God can burn unhindered there. By scooping out the ashes of dry, dead thoughts and feelings, which once were living sacrifices, the fresh, spiritual breath can burn a new sacrifice!
Preparing a fresh sacrifice of praise and removing yesterday’s stagnation makes for fresh fire!
