I was remembering when I was 16 years old and went to a storefront church in downtown Indianapolis. The fire of God touched me, saved me and filled me! I laughed with joy in the Spirit all the way home! My friend told me not to tell my parents what happened to me, in case he’d get criticized for bringing me to church. But I was too excited. I ran through the back door and into the kitchen. I told my parents who were sitting at the kitchen table, “The Lord just saved me and filled me with the Holy Ghost!!!!” Then I began to speak in tongues and praise God right in front of them. My father leaned over to my mother, “He’s going through a religious phase. He’ll grow out of it!” Yet within the next 8 years, over 50 members of my family received Christ –including my father and mother… and they, too, caught the fire!
The Bible says in Acts 2:3-4 says, “And cloven tongues of fire sat upon each of them, and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” Catching the fire cleanses our mouth, our tongue and speech. By receiving a tongue of fire, our world changes and the lives of others can change because life and death are in the power of the tongue. This “Pentecostal fire” is as fresh today as it was on the birthday of the Church.
